Very rare and sought-after Heuer Carrera 45 Dato chronograph with the reference 3147S from the year 1969. The vintage cues continue in the overall style and size of the watch, with a 39mm “glassbox” case keeping things retro and modest. Hodinkee’s updated version looks largely the same but has updated the minutes register to track up to 30 minutes rather than the 45 of the original. This was later remedied in 1968 with the Carrera ‘Dato 45 ref. The original Dato featured a black dial with a single white subdial at the 3 o’clock position measuring chronograph minutes and an unusual date window at 9 o’clock. Were featuring a very special Heuer Carrera 'Dato 45,' bearing the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Logo on its dial. 3147N from the 1960s and mimics that model’s highly-unique design language. The two companies have just unveiled their first joint-project since 2017 in the form of the TAG Heuer Carrera ‘Dato’ Limited Edition For Hodinkee, and it looks like another winner. The TAG Heuer Carrera Dato 45 Hodinkee Limited Edition is presented in a 39 mm stainless steel Carrera case and is powered by the caliber 02 in-house chronograph with 80-hours of power reserve. While the original chronograph counted up to an odd 45 minutes, the modern movement is constrained to just 30 minutes.
It’s pretty big news in the watch world any time Hodinkee does a collaboration with a watchmaker, and that’s especially true when it does so with a brand as storied as TAG Heuer. I nspired by the original 1965 Heuer 3147N Dato 45 Hodinkee and TAG Heuer have collaborated on a modern remake of the collectible chronograph.
